Lichfield’s Historic Guildhall Prison Cells - Open!
About
The site, which has housed a prison since 1548, has a fascinating history that spans across centuries. Today, visitors will be able to explore four of the remaining cells and a small display which includes memorabilia from the police station which once existed there. The Cells also tell the stories of the people who were imprisoned there, including Edward Wightman, who was the last person to be burned at the stake for heresy in England.
The Cells will be open every Saturday from 10am-4pm until September and entry is free.
