Lichfield Jazz Presents The Midlands Youth Jazz Orchestra
The incredibly talented musically groundbreaking MYJO (The Midland Youth Jazz Orchestra) led by Dr John Ruddick MBE, are making a more than welcome return to Lichfield to play a concert of exciting Big Band music, featuring many of the musical stars of the future!
Held in our regular monthly jazz venue, the Cathedral Hotel, this band is going to wow and impress with its sensational display of virtuoso musicianship, amazing ensemble playing, dazzling arrangements and stunning improvisations.
The Midland Youth Jazz Orchestra is now widely acclaimed as one of the U.K.’s top big bands. Its reputation has been founded on the consistently high quality of performance over two decades. In addition, audiences find they are infected by the enjoyment which band members bring to performances and the excitement which the band generates.
MYJO has featured in concert with many famous names from the musical world, including Benny Carter, John Dankworth, Bobby Shew, Arturo Sandoval, Bob Florence, Stan Tracey, Jools Holland, and TV chat show host, Michael Parkinson. Many players from MYJO have entered the music profession, and some are becoming well known in their own right. Among these is the now internationally famous trombonist, Mark Nightingale. Several former members of MYJO play regularly for top bands like the BBC Radio Big Band, SLO, and the Robbie Williams Big Band.
A Lichfield Jazz Spokesman said ‘This promises to be an exciting evening of live music, the opportunity to see some very talented players performing musically challenging work in intimate surroundings. If you are a fan of big band jazz or are yet to experience it, this will be an unmissable night. We look forward to seeing you there.'
