What is it?
Lichfield Time Travellers is a new interactive Augmented Reality (AR) trail experience through the streets of central Lichfield.
Like ‘PokémonGo for history’, Lichfield Time Travellers brings the stories of this historic city and its people to life.
Now you can take a walk with the new app and meet historical figures like Dr Samuel Johnson, poet Anna Seward, Dr Erasmus Darwin, actor David Garrick and more.
As you explore Lichfield’s historic streets you can find and open time portals by scanning the area around you with your phone to meet the sons and daughters of Lichfield through the ages and hear their stories.
You can collect time crystals from every wonderful character you meet, releasing an artefact trapped inside. Will you collect every artefact?
Easy to explore
It’s easy to enjoy the Lichfield Time Traveller’s AR experience.
Start by download the app to your iOS and Android device by clicking these hyperlinks or searching for Lichfield Time Travellers in the Apple Store or Google Play Store.
Once the app is downloaded, you’ll enjoy a short introduction before a live map launches to help you navigate the trail.
Remember, for the app to work you must be in Lichfield city centre!
Follow these handy tips to find your way around the interactive map of characters and make the most of the app:
- Use the live map to find and navigate to the time portals located around the centre of Lichfield.
- Use the app menu button to see the full list of characters, settings and to get back to your collectibles.
- You can turn subtitles on or off in settings.
- You’ll receive a notification whenever you get close to a time portal.
- Tap the notification to begin the AR experience and meet whoever the portal pulls into the modern world.
- Hold your phone up to use the camera view to scan for a place to launch the portal with the push of a button.
- Meet characters from Lichfield past and hear their stories!
- Collect the time crystals they leave behind by touching them and collect the artefacts they contain.
