The Wind in the Willows – Lichfield Garrick Thursday 27 July
We were in good company among the full house at the Lichfield Garrick last Thursday for its production of The Wind in the Willows. It really was a lovely way to spend an evening!
The Lichfield Garrick’s Community Musical for 2023 is an entirely new production based on Kenneth Grahame’s much-loved story, featuring Mole, Ratty, Toad and Badger and their adventures along the riverbank.
The production featured winning performances – the leads were excellent particularly Holly Rice as Toad – and there was strong support across the board.
With striking costumes and sets, a flawless band and atmospheric lighting the show, which was receiving its world premiere, drew the audience in and pulled them along on an enchanting journey.
A highlight for me was the excellent music – full marks to Joel Hall for his memorable compositions. They worked very well providing lively accompaniment to the onstage antics, especially of the ‘wild wooders’.
Director and writer Jonny McClean has created a lively, fun production which was perfectly suited to the inclusive nature of a community musical. The Lichfield Garrick is to be applauded.
