Our free blockbuster exhibition, ‘I Grew Up 90s’ will run from April – June and looks at Nineties Britain through the lens of youth. You’ll encounter beloved toys and video games, fashion, food, film and of course the music that defined the decade. The Hub Creative Director, Anthony Evans says ‘The 90s was my era and alongside the exhibition, I'm delighted The Phonics (13 June), Bootiful South (2 May), the classic dance anthems of Insomnia (14 June) and Fakermaker - Oasis Tribute (19 April) will take you back to the glory days of the 90s, providing the soundtrack to our awesome new exhibition!
Our packed line-up of live music also features iconic songwriter James Walsh of Starsailor (28 February) and smooth jazz from ‘SMILE’ featuring the music of Gregory Porter and Nat King Cole (9 February and 22 June). Other music highlights include ‘The Specials Ltd.' (23 May) and ‘George! The Concert’ (5 April), a heartfelt tribute to the legendary George Harrison.
We have excellent theatre for both young and old. For the grown-ups, ‘Kevin, King of Egypt’ (30 January) is the uproarious story of a very unlikely hero written and performed by Rob Gee and there’s a rip-roaring production of ‘Three Men in a Boat’ (23 January) – men behaving badly while messing about in boats! There is thought-provoking, sharp, black comedy in ‘We Need To Talk About Brenda’ on 10 April. The Hub are committed to keeping theatre affordable for families so we’ve lined up three delightful shows for you to experience the magic together! ‘Peachy and Me’ (16 February), is a world where storytelling, magic and comedy entwine. ‘Welcome to the World‘ (23 March), is filled to the brim with original songs, dances and puppets made entirely from natural and found materials and creates magical, mindful moments to support children’s wellbeing. ‘Shoe Baby’ (8 June), takes you on a fantastical adventure with a baby who takes to the sea, the air, the zoo – all in a shoe!
There’s much, much, more including Hub favourites: Sunday Jazz and Sunday Acoustic Lounge, not forgetting top-notch comedy from The Alter Comedy Club and our amazing cabaret evenings, Très Très Cabaret and #BingoHun. Please visit our website for all event details and tickets www.thehubstmarys.co.uk
Anthony says, ‘The Hub is more than just shows and our Community Outreach Officer, Hayley is working with a wide range of local partners to ensure The Hub remains ‘their space’ and continues to be a relevant, vibrant part of our community. Our 2024 programme is looking good, but times are extremely tough for grassroots venues, so every ticket, every coffee, and every visit helps keep the lights on at The Hub. Please support the arts and keep Lichfield’s community and cultural scene thriving.’
