Online Event: A Country Christmas at Samuel Johnson Birthplace Museum
Published on: Wed, 09/12/2020 - 16:19
Join the Samuel Johnson Birthplace on Monday 21st December as they team up with the Lichfield Storytellers to deliver the Museum’s first online event just in time for Christmas!
The Birthplace team have been welcoming the Storytellers as part of their Christmas programme for the past few years, however due to the latest set of COVID-19 regulations, the Museum remains closed until further notice. Following their success with previous online events, the Storytellers decided to continue their Christmas tradition virtually this year using Zoom.
Tune in at 7:30pm as they share some of their favourite wintry tales from Christmases past, from heart-warming stories of rural life, to local customs and folklore. Cath Edwards from the Storytellers will walk audiences through the market square and into the historic house, which has been festively decorated to create a cosy, wintry atmosphere throughout. What would Christmas be without one or two traditional songs to brighten up a cold winter evening? Although COVID-19 restrictions mean that the essence of the Birthplace will be captured through pre-recorded video, the rest of the performance will be delivered live by the Storytellers themselves.
A spokesperson from the Birthplace has described this event as “an exciting new chapter for the Museum”. They went on to say that “although the Museum would usually be celebrating the festive season with a full events programme, doing our first online event gives audiences a rare chance to experience the historic building from home”.
Tickets for this event are available online and cost £6 for General Admission and £3 for Concessions, with a £3 ‘Buy now, View later’ option available if you wish to enjoy the festive stories at another time. As the Museum remains closed at this time, this is a great way to support the Birthplace and the local arts in Lichfield.
