National Memorial Arboretum scoops two further tourism awards

The National Memorial Arboretum, in Staffordshire, is celebrating two further industry awards just a couple of weeks after securing its first-ever Green Flag. Last week, the Nation’s year-round place to remember was named Best UK Attraction in the Group Leisure & Travel Awards 2021 and was presented with a Gold Visitor Attraction Accolade for 2021-22 by VisitEngland.

The Group Leisure & Travel awards recognise the best providers, attractions and destinations for groups, with the winners voted for by readers of Group Leisure & Travel magazine. In scooping the Best UK Attraction award, the Arboretum triumphed over impressive competition from other major visitor destinations, including LEGOLAND® Windsor Resort and the Tower of London.

Meanwhile, VisitEngland’s Accolades are designed to celebrate excellence within the visitor attraction sector and showcase businesses in the VisitEngland Visitor Attraction Quality Scheme that go the extra mile to provide a high-quality experience for visitors. This is the second year in a row where the Arboretum has secured the honour of a Gold Accolade, and in 2018 the 150-acre garden and woodland site was also named Visitor Attraction of the Year at the Visit England awards.

This year, the National Memorial Arboretum has been experiencing prolonged awards success, including being named best Tourist Attraction/Inclusive Venue at the itravel Staycation Awards 2021 and Best Venue for History Learning at the School Travel Awards. Home to more than 400 memorials dedicated to members of the Armed Forces, emergency services and community and voluntary groups who have served our country, the Arboretum continues to welcome hundreds of thousands of visitors each year for Acts of Remembrance, family days out and a wide range of events.

“These latest awards are once again a testament to the incredible work that our staff and volunteers put into delivering a world-class experience for all of our visitors,” said Mark Ellis, Interim Lead of the National Memorial Arboretum. “Working together, they consistently go the extra mile, from our dedicated expert volunteers who deliver incredible guided tours to everyone involved in ensuring this inspirational landscape is a fitting tribute to those who serve our Nation.”
