Lichfield and Burntwood Theatre and Dance Networks go live
Published on: Mon, 29/03/2021 - 17:32
The Lichfield and Burntwood Theatre and Performance Network has been launched to create opportunities for anyone interested in theatre and performance to take part, learn something new, develop professionally and find opportunities to make and create work within our local community.
It will initially identify and acknowledge the fantastic provision that already exists within the community and gather this together in one place – almost like a directory. Anyone wanting to get involved in the local theatre and performance scene will be able to link up with other like-minded people; Actors, Circus Artists, Physical Theatre performers, Playwrights, Directors, you name it – they want to hear from you, as well as anyone who just fancies giving the world of theatre and performance a go!
By gathering this information in one place the Lichfield and Burntwood Theatre and Performance Network will also identify any gaps in local provision, so that the Network can look at generating new and exciting opportunities within our local community. This could be performance projects to take part in, opportunities for professional development, building on existing skills or exploring new ways of working creatively – it all depends on who we find and what they’d like to see and do.
The Network welcomes people of all performance backgrounds as well as people interested in having a go for the first time to join the L&BTPN to create, shape and cultivate new Theatre and Performance opportunities in Lichfield and Burntwood. It needs you to share your thoughts, ideas, enthusiasm and support for local theatre and performance.
L&BTPN is led by independent, experienced theatre artists with careers spanning a variety of performance disciplines, teaching, community arts and more.
L&BTPN’s Richard Poynton says, "I’m really looking forward to being part of the Theatre and Performance Network and would encourage anyone with any interest in the Performing Arts to get involved. It’s a great place to find out about taking part in exciting things happening in our community and also an excellent place to make suggestions about the kind of thing you’d like to try if that provision doesn’t exist. Get involved!"
The L&BTPN is on Facebook and is supported by The Hub at St Mary’s as part of its artistic response to the impact of the pandemic. The Administrators are volunteers and opinions are of the artists and participants themselves and not the venue. Please be kind.
In addition, the Lichfield and Burntwood Dance Network has also been set up by experienced professional artists to create opportunities to take part, learn something new, develop professionally and find opportunities to create and see high quality dance work on local stages. The network is a space to easily discover dance friends and to connect with other artists, choreographers and teachers, as well as opportunities for professional development and training. The main aim is to create a dance community and be part of it!
L&BDN is led by independent dance artists with diverse portfolio careers spanning performance, teaching, community dance, choreography and more. The Network will be a collective creative group. To have the greatest impact, facilitate collaboration and create the biggest buzz for local dance, we’d like everyone to be involved. We welcome artists from all artistic practices and backgrounds cultivating positive dance experience in Lichfield and Burntwood.
Dance Artist Molly Wright says, "Originally from Lichfield I trained and then worked in London for the past 15 years. I’ve recently returned to Lichfield as a new mother of twin boys and I’m grateful to return to the lovely green open spaces and less polluted City. However I am curious to discover a new dance community here in the Midlands. As a teacher/performer/choreographer/creator and mother I’m looking forward to meeting other like-minded people in the area to share work/ideas and potentially even collaborate with. The Lichfield and Burntwood Dance Network is a great place to be able to do exactly that."
Fleur Hall, Dance Artist says, "I’m really excited about the variety of possibilities that the Lichfield and Burntwood Dance Network opens up. We often travel outside Lichfield for art of all forms but I think it’s important to acknowledge the existing and also the new and emerging talent we have in our little city. The potential for a more diverse range of artists to perform and bring workshops to Lichfield, as well as for professional development and community work is brilliant!"
