Music & Theatre / Festivals / Arts & Culture Some Like It Hot - The Magic of the Movies with James Pearson & Lizzie Ball

About this event

Event info

Festival Associate Artists, violinist and vocalist Lizzie Ball and world-renowned pianist and Ronnie Scott’s Artistic Director, James Pearson, return to the Festival with a glorious and glamorous ensemble, hand-picked to celebrate ‘The Magic of the Movies’.

Starting with the traditional fanfares that identified the different studios, this evening is a journey through some of the most famous musical moments in film history.

The Jazz Singer in 1927 was the first official ‘talkie’ and changed the future of film on its release. No more subtitles – just glorious cinematic sound. To celebrate that, tonight’s concert features a huge variety of film music, from themes such as The Odd Couple, Mr. Hulot’s Holiday, Catch Me If You Can and even The Pink Panther, alongside songs from the golden age of Hollywood: I Want To Be Loved By You, Diamonds Are A Girl’s Best Friend and Moon River.

In addition there will be rarely performed incidental music from films such as Cinema Paradiso, Get Carter and The Thomas Crown Affair (bring your Chess board!) – and, as always, James will be at the piano to guide us through the evening, demonstrating how film music ‘works’ and peppering us with anecdotes about the films themselves and the music that makes them.
