Lichfield Arts Invites you to join us on the Folk Train - September 29th 2021
As a warm-up for this year’s L2F Festival in October Lichfield Arts would like to invite all folk fans and musicians to join us for the 2021 Folk Train on Wednesday, September 29th. The assembled, motley crew of musicians and singers will entertain on the Cross City Line from Lichfield Trent Valley to Sutton Coldfield.
You can join the train at Lichfield Trent Valley, or any stop before Sutton Coldfield, with the train leaving at 19.50. The evening will continue onto the Three Tuns pub in Sutton Coldfield, where the music and entertainment will continue before catching the train back to Lichfield at about 10.30.
The event is absolutely free, other than the cost of your train ticket. There will be stewards to direct you at Lichfield Trent Valley and Lichfield City. If you are boarding at any of the intermediate stations, then you will find us in the rearmost carriage. You can also join us at the Three Tuns from approximately 20:15.
A Lichfield Arts Spokesman said ‘When we last ran the Folk Train, back in the halcyon days of 2019, it was a great night, with revelry, spirited singing and playing from the many musicians who joined us for the night. If you have a guitar, a squeezebox, even an old washboard lying around, please bring it with you, and join us for a night of adventure and music’.
The Three Tuns is Sutton Coldfield’s oldest hostelry. The Earl of Richmond (later King Henry VII), lodged here on his way to Bosworth and Cromwell met with his officers here after the Battle of Worcester. The pub is reputedly home to the ghost of a young Cavalier drummer boy, who has haunted the cellar since he was murdered in the stocks by Roundhead troops.
