A Touch of Culture / Celebrations & Occasions Finalists announced in Lichfield Festival’s Midlands Choir of the Year competition

Six choirs to compete in Final at Lichfield Cathedral on 7 July

Six of the most talented amateur choirs from around the region have been announced as finalists in Lichfield Festival’s Midlands Choir of the Year competition. The groups will compete for the title on Sunday 7 July at Lichfield Cathedral.

The finalists are Chanteuse Chamber Choir (Stafford), The Derwent Singers (Derby), Inspire Choir (Lichfield), MaleVox (Birmingham), Staffordshire Show Choir (Staffordshire) and VocaBella (Shropshire).

Eleven choirs competed in front of a panel of judges at semi-final rounds in Lichfield on 18 and 19 May.

As well as lifting the Midlands Choir of the Year trophy, the winning group will receive a cash prize of £1000 and an invitation to sing at the 2025 Lichfield Festival. The audience will also award a prize of an additional £500 to the choir of their choice.

Also performing at the Final will be current Midlands Choir of the Year champions, Cor Bach, who won the inaugural competition in 2022.

Organiser and Festival Director Damian Thantrey said “It was an incredible weekend of the most accomplished, committed and stylish singing. We can now look forward to a Final of high-level music making from the most talented amateur singers in the region, performing a wide variety of specially chosen repertoire in the glorious surrounds of Lichfield Cathedral.”

The competition is open to amateur, adult singing groups of all types and musical genres from across the Midlands region. The Festival would like to thank Lichfield District Council and Major Festival Partners, McArthurGlen West Midlands, for supporting the community and the Midlands Choir of the Year competition.

Midlands Choir of the Year Final is at Lichfield Cathedral on Sunday 7 July, 7.30pm as part of Lichfield Festival. Lichfield Festival runs from 4-14 July 2024.
